The biopsy
A biopsy is a surgical procedure that involves taking a lesion or portion of a lesion for microscopic analysis. It can, among other things, make it possible to exclude the presence of a malignancy, but the biopsy also makes it possible to obtain an accurate diagnosis that will allow the clinician to better direct his treatment.
When a biopsy is taken by the oral pathologist, the tissue is still analyzed in the laboratory and a report is issued later. Delays vary, depending on the complexity of the case and the urgency, and may take a few days to weeks to obtain a diagnosis.
